The Nereus Program, in collaboration with ANCORS, the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat and the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner is co-hosting a workshop. The workshop will be held in Suva, Fiji, 30 Jan – 1 Feb 2019. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together representatives from Pacific Island nations with international scientific, legal and policy experts to discuss the development of a new international legally binding instrument for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The workshop aims to contribute to capacity-building efforts in the region and the preparation for the second intergovernmental conference for the development of the BBNJ instrument, which will be held on 25 March at the UN in New York.
